Uniplas solar array: Powering sustainable manufacturing
Leading the Charge: Our Commitment to Net Carbon Zero with New Zealand’s Largest Solar Array

In our unwavering commitment to sustainability and New Zealand’s goal of achieving net carbon zero, we are proud to unveil our latest milestone: a state-of-the-art solar array comprising 1,620 panels, designed by Zen Energy and installed by the specialists at Soloana Energy. This ambitious project represents a significant step forward in reducing our carbon footprint and embracing renewable energy.
A Solar Powerhouse
This solar array is a game-changer. With an expected annual production of 1,100 MWh, it will generate enough electricity to power approximately 155 average New Zealand homes for an entire year. Additionally, it will offset approximately 80 tonnes of carbon emissions that would have been generated using New Zealand’s grid power.
The installation directly addresses our biggest contributor to carbon emissions—electricity consumption. By transitioning to solar energy, we are set to reduce our overall carbon footprint by an impressive 54%, marking a transformative shift in our operations.

Among the Largest in New Zealand
Our solar array is not just a step forward for us—it’s a landmark achievement for the Wellington region and positions us among the largest rooftop solar installations in New Zealand, and as of testing, April the 9th we are largest operational array in the country here’s how it compares:
- Mānawa Bay, Outlet centre, 2.3MW – Under construction
- Lion NZ,The Pride brewery 1.21MW – Under construction
- Auckland Airport, Transport Hub, 1.2MW - Under construction
- Ikea, Auckland 1,002kW
- Uniplas NZ ltd, Wellington 940kW- Live
- Port of Auckland, 800kW – Planning stage
- Pervious largest in Wellington, 500kW - Live
In Wellington, our array surpasses the previous largest rooftop installation, which featured 400kWp and produced 500 MWh annually. This makes our 940kWp solar array the largest rooftop installation in Wellington by over double and one of the largest privately owned arrays in the country.
Collaboration and Expertise
This project was made possible through the collaboration of Zen Energy, who meticulously designed the system, and Soloana Energy, whose expertise ensured seamless installation. Their combined efforts have resulted in a solar array that not only meets but exceeds expectations in terms of efficiency and sustainability.

A Brighter, Greener Future
This solar installation is more than just an investment in renewable energy—it’s a statement of our commitment to a sustainable future. By reducing our reliance on grid power and cutting emissions, we are contributing to New Zealand’s broader climate goals while setting an example for others to follow.
As we continue to innovate and adapt, this project serves as a reminder that bold action and collaboration can drive meaningful change. Together, we are building a brighter, greener future for our company, our community, and our planet.
